Wondering what Ida Spence Mission does for the community?
Education:
During the school year, we provide an Afterschool Program 3 days a week. It gives the children and youth help with homework, learning activities, and a meal (provided by UMC Food). In Summer, we offer a program that includes reading groups, games, other fun activities, and a meal (provided by UMC Food).
Every Sunday, we provide a meal with the Children and Youth Worship. We also offer Christian education through our children’s church program, youth program, and various bible studies. Most of this is run by volunteers from Northern Kentucky congregations.
We also provide various programs during the year on health and safety.
These range from clinics to classes on a wide variety of subjects.

Mentoring:
Mentoring is a big part of our other two areas of service (nutrition, education) to the community. We do all we can to have a regular presence at the Mission, and our volunteers help with this. We also mentor by trying to provide employment opportunities to those who live within our community.

Nutrition:
With the help of UMCFood Ministries, we provide 4-6 meals a week for the children
in the City Heights Community. These meals are free to them.
In addition to the regular weekly meals,
we also provide a Last Saturday of the Month meal for families
whose money might have run out at the end of the month.
This is done with the help of the churches in the Northern Kentucky area.
